Discus Dental®, LLC, has donated approximately US$10,000 in oral hygiene products to Operation Gratitude, an organization that sends care packages to members of the U.S. Armed Forces overseas. By collecting donations from attendees at recent tradeshows and dedicating a percentage of all show sales to this effort, Discus has sent hundreds of units of BreathRx™ Oral Hygiene Products to Operation Gratitude.
Scientists are reporting an advance toward the next big treatment revolution in dentistry—the era in which root canal therapy brings diseased teeth back to life, rather than leaving a “non-vital” or dead tooth in the mouth.
A tooth-bleaching agent may improve the oral health of elderly and special-needs patients, say dentists at the Medical College of Georgia and Western University of Health Sciences.
Black tea, a Southern USA staple and the world’s most consumed beverage, may contain higher concentrations of fluoride than previously thought, which could pose problems for the heaviest tea drinkers, Medical College of Georgia researchers say. Most published reports show 1 to 5 milligrams of fluoride per liter of black tea, but a new study shows that number could be as high as 9 milligrams.
Dentists are confident that growing your own teeth from stem cells will become a reality within the next fifty years. It all seems a far cry from the days when just pulling a tooth was fraught with danger and when barbers, wig makers and even blacksmiths would dabble in dentistry.
